I've been published in the Winter 2015 issue of Greencraft Magazine. I am a big fan of all their publications, especially the Somerset series, so this is a really cool deal to me. My sweet little Tart Tin Ornaments are being featured in the Gallery section of the magazine, which hits newsstands tomorrow, November 1st, 2015. If you like what you see, be sure to check out and "like" my Vintage Mouse Facebook page, where I have lots of photos of all my creations and craft shows I participate in. <a href="https://www.facebook.com/AVintageMouse/">https://www.facebook.com/AVintageMouse/</a> <br />

With the holidays looming closer and closer, I am working non-stop, trying to create plenty of product for the holiday shows. My first is in October and I want to be prepared! Along the way to building my fabulous creations, I am constantly in need of specific colors of flowers, ornaments, bottle brush trees, etc. Now I definitely have ALOT of goodies to work with, but for some reason that drives me crazy, I never seem to have the RIGHT COLOR of flowers, etc.! But NOT ANY LONGER!! Thanks to the awesome Color Lab diy paint kit by Marion Smith Designs, I can custom create any color I need and use it to dye the flowers, etc.!!! Nowadays I tend to buy the supplies in white and use the Color Lab to dye them. You can find more info online, including videos, just google Color Lab. Here's a quick overview:</span><br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-t9dJBhkO-zU/VbGZxfVVfQI/AAAAAAAAAf8/6ma96jSDmkg/s1600/color%2Blab%2Bkit.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-t9dJBhkO-zU/VbGZxfVVfQI/AAAAAAAAAf8/6ma96jSDmkg/s640/color%2Blab%2Bkit.jpg" width="640" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;">Here's what the kit looks like inside. You get 3 sprayers, 5 jars with 5 different pigment paints, 3 jars of sparkling pigments, a measuring spoon and recipe card.</span><br />
<br />
</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-tCAiROsojt8/VbGa8dLKHSI/AAAAAAAAAgI/QBaGUQQLDy8/s1600/color%2Blab%2Bitems1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="476" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-tCAiROsojt8/VbGa8dLKHSI/AAAAAAAAAgI/QBaGUQQLDy8/s640/color%2Blab%2Bitems1.jpg" width="640" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;">As you can see, I've mixed a batch of turquoise and sprayed my white flowers for a beautiful color! The directions are easy to follow and there are tons more recipes online, but I used the Curious recipe from the recipe sheet in the kit for this batch.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: x-large;"></span><br />
</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Sf5zrYrzLW8/VbGckYDOzsI/AAAAAAAAAgU/v6Eb9_jsXMk/s1600/color%2Blab%2Bitems2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="547" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Sf5zrYrzLW8/VbGckYDOzsI/AAAAAAAAAgU/v6Eb9_jsXMk/s640/color%2Blab%2Bitems2.jpg" width="640" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;">I just love the variety of color you can get by spraying more heavily. You can also lighten by running water over it! This is definitely a huge help when I don't have that "JUST RIGHT COLOR" on hand! No more emergency runs to the craft store!</span></td></tr>

<span style="font-size: large;">How's it going my crafty friends!? I've got a new post AND a tutorial for you this time! </span></div>
<span style="font-size: large;"></span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">One day a few months ago while out pickin' my favorite thrift and antique stores I came upon a bunch of those pretty silverplate casserole dish holders, all of them missing their glass bowl and lid. Each of them had a different cutout design and 3 unique little feet to hold them just a tad above the table surface. I could hear them calling my name...."please rescue us Vintage Mouse". Then it hit me....<em>I could use them as a base for my Christmas Villages!</em> Usually my villages are pink and black and very shabby chic, but suddenly I saw them in my minds eye on these silverplate beauties, blues and greens and white frosty wonderlands with bottle brush trees of icy blues and turquoise greens! Inspiration hit me like a winter storm! I purchased them all and headed straight for my craft room. Now I realize that it may seem strange writing about this in June, but you have to remember that I work all year long on Christmas items that I sell at shows during the holiday season. I have created several of these snowy village beauties and they have turned out gorgeous! I will share more of that later in a separate post...</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"></span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Now I have bleached many a bottle brush tree to use in my villages, but never have I dyed one and I really wanted some blue and turquoise green trees to use in these new villages. So I hit the internet in search of directions on how to dye a tree. There are LOTS AND LOTS of sites that tell you how to do it and just as many different methods. Some use a fabric dye like RIT and Tulip, some use paint, some use a spray like Glimmer Mist or Color Lab by Marion Smith. I decided to try the fabric dyes and here is my take....although I was mostly quite happy with the results, they were a little difficult to reliably reproduce. I used Rit and also Tulip, on separate occasions and found that they produce differing results. RIT seemed to dye darker and faster. On my first try, I followed the directions on the package. After that I used a lot less water with the Tulip, because it seemed to take forever and I couldn't get the saturated color I wanted, sometimes even leaving them in there overnight. I also experimented with an ombre effect, standing the trees up in the dye solution, with only the lower third of the tree submerged. There was definitely some experimenting and monitoring involved, and of course, a degree of messiness, but overall a fun experience and gorgeous trees!</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"></span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Here's how I did it:</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-XkDKYiwYXXk/VW4_qXg7nfI/AAAAAAAAAdU/rK5odmjVqdg/s1600/tools%2Bfor%2Bdyeing.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="435" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-XkDKYiwYXXk/VW4_qXg7nfI/AAAAAAAAAdU/rK5odmjVqdg/s640/tools%2Bfor%2Bdyeing.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<span style="font-size: large;">Gather your supplies: a 4 gallon bucket, plastic gloves, some bottle brush trees (bleached), metal tongs, fabric dye (available at craft stores), salt (the Tulip brand dye calls for it) and an old towel to set things on.</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-TcoJKwT1OfM/VW5BHSyGubI/AAAAAAAAAdo/kvymeBZ5cNQ/s1600/submerge%2Btrees.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-TcoJKwT1OfM/VW5BHSyGubI/AAAAAAAAAdo/kvymeBZ5cNQ/s400/submerge%2Btrees.jpg" width="330" /></a><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Follow the directions on the package of dye. Use your gloves and make sure the water is HOT. I used a little less water than the pkg says because I wanted my trees to dye a little darker and quicker.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-m4RgyFICQTM/VW5PLten1JI/AAAAAAAAAe0/CM4yUHergIM/s1600/pull%2Btree%2Bout%2Bof%2Bdye.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="244" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-m4RgyFICQTM/VW5PLten1JI/AAAAAAAAAe0/CM4yUHergIM/s320/pull%2Btree%2Bout%2Bof%2Bdye.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<span style="font-size: large;">If you want variety adjust the time that they are submerged. Just a quick 30 second dip will create a very light version tree.</span><br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-TTyeKXzXO8M/VW5Pt-qKO2I/AAAAAAAAAe8/I24OxZI5Rdc/s1600/rinse%2Bthe%2Btree1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="295" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-TTyeKXzXO8M/VW5Pt-qKO2I/AAAAAAAAAe8/I24OxZI5Rdc/s320/rinse%2Bthe%2Btree1.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
</td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;">To accurately gauge the color of the tree, I rinsed it periodically. </span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"> I did an ombre effect by adding some dye solution to a separate small bowl so that the bottom third of the tree is submerged. I stood the tree in it upright and left it there for 30 minutes. Then I came back and added more dye solution to cover the midde third and left it in for 30 minutes. To color the top third of the tree, I used tongs to hold it upside down in the solution for a minute or so.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: small;"></span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-kDJ0dWdT8f0/VW5Q8FYoSVI/AAAAAAAAAfM/LGF9z1-NXBA/s1600/dyed%2Bbottle%2Bbrush%2Btrees.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="452" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-kDJ0dWdT8f0/VW5Q8FYoSVI/AAAAAAAAAfM/LGF9z1-NXBA/s640/dyed%2Bbottle%2Bbrush%2Btrees.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<span style="font-size: large;">And here is the final outcome for the tree-dyeing project! They're all a little different, but I kinda like that! This photo doesn't do them justice either! They are gorgeous and after a light coat of Sparkling Snow glitter (by Sparkle N Sprinkle) they are absolutely stunning! (not pictured here)</span><br />
<span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-size: large;">I plan on trying out the spray coloring technique next time using Color Lab pigments by Marion Smith Designs. I'll keep you posted.</span> </span></td></tr>

<br /></div>
<span style="font-size: large;">Hello my crafty friends! Hope you are all crafting your little hearts out and getting inspiration from the beautiful spring weather most of us have been enjoying! I know I have! All year long I am working on getting my beautiful and whimsical goods ready for the holiday shows. One of the cute little critters I make is my Snowball Kings. White, sparkly puffs of snow with a clay carrot nose (I make), 2 beady eyes (actual black beads) and a spritz of silvery garland, sitting atop a vintage silverplate goblet. And just what makes them royalty? A gorgeous, glitzy crown perched on top of their heads!! Today I want to share with you just how I create these beautiful crowns. First, lets have a look at some of these beauties:</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-bv5kq2Vzz48/VTNQHlaZyhI/AAAAAAAAAa4/qsjx-jTkQww/s1600/crowns1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-bv5kq2Vzz48/VTNQHlaZyhI/AAAAAAAAAa4/qsjx-jTkQww/s1600/crowns1.jpg" height="328" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Pretty cute, huh? First you'll need some supplies:</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-YHbg89rmE2o/VTNQ0tftViI/AAAAAAAAAbA/IpvxDrb-5yA/s1600/CROWN%2Bingredients.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-YHbg89rmE2o/VTNQ0tftViI/AAAAAAAAAbA/IpvxDrb-5yA/s1600/CROWN%2Bingredients.jpg" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">The crowns are made from a 2" long section of chipboard tube. You can use a paper towel core or if you have no objections....a toilet paper core. I use the paper towel core of course but either works!</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-CWc1t2-6euk/VTNRu1uQW5I/AAAAAAAAAbM/V6Hf2znAN9c/s1600/brush%2Bon%2Bglue.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-CWc1t2-6euk/VTNRu1uQW5I/AAAAAAAAAbM/V6Hf2znAN9c/s1600/brush%2Bon%2Bglue.jpg" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">Cut a piece of decorative paper 2" by 6" long. Brush Mod Podge onto the outer surface of the tube and quickly glue on your paper so that the decorative image is on the outside. Allow to dry.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-CJESB6l3xr4/VTNSuewt3RI/AAAAAAAAAbU/OXcIz_0EzXU/s1600/paint%2Bblack.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-CJESB6l3xr4/VTNSuewt3RI/AAAAAAAAAbU/OXcIz_0EzXU/s1600/paint%2Bblack.jpg" height="303" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">Paint the interior surface of the chipboard core using a coordinating color. Allow to dry.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-GtpH0lZ8cZk/VTNTCAQVCAI/AAAAAAAAAbc/g-4JuBBsEB0/s1600/pencil%2Bcrown.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-GtpH0lZ8cZk/VTNTCAQVCAI/AAAAAAAAAbc/g-4JuBBsEB0/s1600/pencil%2Bcrown.jpg" height="291" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">Using a pencil, draw guidelines onto the paper to represent the points of your crown.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/--HUojAyHVPQ/VTNTVWhe83I/AAAAAAAAAbk/fM5D8wgIjrU/s1600/cut%2Bpoints.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/--HUojAyHVPQ/VTNTVWhe83I/AAAAAAAAAbk/fM5D8wgIjrU/s1600/cut%2Bpoints.jpg" height="297" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">With scissors, cut the tips along the pencil lines. Erase any stray marks with a white plastic eraser.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-6H0kVODzCws/VTNT0YkIiKI/AAAAAAAAAbs/XuQWsi-uSP8/s1600/apply%2Bstickles.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-6H0kVODzCws/VTNT0YkIiKI/AAAAAAAAAbs/XuQWsi-uSP8/s1600/apply%2Bstickles.jpg" height="248" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">Apply glitter glue in a coordinating color along the edges of the points.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-2fWF8TijdvI/VTNUFJpHn4I/AAAAAAAAAb0/uIpx8rQvt0Q/s1600/apply%2Bglitter.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-2fWF8TijdvI/VTNUFJpHn4I/AAAAAAAAAb0/uIpx8rQvt0Q/s1600/apply%2Bglitter.jpg" height="391" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">BEFORE the glitter glue dries, sprinkle fine glitter on top of it. This creates a really sparkly look. Allow to dry.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-UitpPXhe1fM/VTNUkBhpUCI/AAAAAAAAAb8/4GfBPOgoLVQ/s1600/glue%2Bon%2Brhinestones.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-UitpPXhe1fM/VTNUkBhpUCI/AAAAAAAAAb8/4GfBPOgoLVQ/s1600/glue%2Bon%2Brhinestones.jpg" height="400" width="387" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">Cut a piece of rhinestone chain approximately 5 1/4" long and adhere to the bottom edge of the crown using Beacon 3 in 1 adhesive. Allow to dry.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">And that's it! You now have the cutest little crown that can be used in lots of charming ways. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">Take a look:</span></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-1hR_NovQC0w/VTrR9t4LdBI/AAAAAAAAAcQ/Z5RLK2bMGw4/s1600/hairband%2B1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-1hR_NovQC0w/VTrR9t4LdBI/AAAAAAAAAcQ/Z5RLK2bMGw4/s1600/hairband%2B1.jpg" height="320" width="272" /></a><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-SenEnb4wpoM/VTrSGe695oI/AAAAAAAAAcY/6Iafuudb-v0/s1600/headband2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-SenEnb4wpoM/VTrSGe695oI/AAAAAAAAAcY/6Iafuudb-v0/s1600/headband2.jpg" height="320" width="284" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">Glue them onto headbands for a festive one-of-a-kind crown!</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Z-ius-yfkqo/VTrS19UkxdI/AAAAAAAAAcg/MdCqdUXk-To/s1600/placecard%2Bholder.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-size: large;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Z-ius-yfkqo/VTrS19UkxdI/AAAAAAAAAcg/MdCqdUXk-To/s1600/placecard%2Bholder.jpg" height="400" width="332" /></span></a></div>
<span style="font-size: large;">Create a lovely place card holder</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">And of course....they top off my sweet little Snowball Kings!</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"></span> </div>
<span style="font-size: large;"> I hope you enjoy making these fun little crowns as much as I do!!</span>Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10145154299877159830noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1028373552463862297.post-12309462518447467392015-02-25T13:17:00.000-08:002015-02-25T13:17:14.719-08:00Baby shoes.....who knew?<br />
<span style="background-color: white; color: #141823; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, 'lucida grande', tahoma, verdana, arial, sans-serif; line-height: 17.5636348724365px;"><span style="font-size: large;">A while back, I ran across a bunch of vintage white baby shoes during one of my pickin' adventures. They were so cute and I knew I could do something with them, so I bought them all. I ended up altering them into photo holders, pin cushions and bird nests and they sold well at various craft shows. They make the best baby shower gifts but also look cute in a shabby chic decor, changing out the photo or saying to reflect the holidays or just as you like. I only have a few left now. But here's a peek at some I will be bringing to Glitterfest this Saturday!</span></span><br />

I had a loss in the family that really took a toll. Then the birth of my sweet granddaughter turned our holidays upside down. I'm doing much better now and I will be participating once again in Glitterfest Spring 2015.</span><br />

Surrounded by so much luscious crafty awesomeness and uber creative people in the last 24 hours, I am utterly spent! Not to mention, I worked so hard for this show and so hard during the show, that now I'm in recovery mode. But it was definitely worth it!</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"></span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">The show itself is just so awesome and every single booth/table is a smorgasbord for the eyes. You really need to allow plenty of time to just take it all in. Clay figures, wacky wool and felt dolls, waxed sculptures, glittered animal figurines, dazzling rhinestone tiaras, glittery bottle brush trees in all colors and sizes.....I was virtually drunk with inspiration!</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"></span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">The best part was seeing the customers reactions to my own creations. My table was littered with fancy antique plate party platters, whimsical Christmas villages fit for a fairy and the faces of sweet little vintage girls smiling from vintage tart tin ornaments. Peoples faces really lit up as they perused the items before making a purchase. My favorite moment was when a little girl, about 7, walked up and exclaimed "I want to live here!" as she pointed to my table.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"></span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Overall, the show was a success on many levels. I sold a good amount of course, but I also met some great people, handed out a ton of business cards, collected 2 pages of emails from new enthusiasts and received a request for submission from an editor at my favorite publisher...Stampington!</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"></span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">I loved this show as an attender in the past and now I hope to continue to be a part of it as a vendor!</span><br />

I must address my current obsession with beautiful plates, antique or otherwise.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"></span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Now this isn't really a new obsession, heaven knows I've been collecting them forever. But once I realized I could make something really cool to sell at the craft shows, give as gifts, etc. my obsession took a ridiculous turn, dragging me along for the ride!</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"></span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Once given a legitimate reason for collecting these little gems, my addiction went full throttle! I started buying them up by color, by size, by style....at thrift stores, antique stores, yard sales.....anywhere I could get a good deal. They began to collect on the bed in the guest room, forming rickety towers in the hallway....heck, I even cleared out shelves in my linen closet. Who needs towels when you have a stack of Liberty Blue beauties in need of a home!? </span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"></span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Well, okay. Enough said. Now take a look at a few of the incredible serving pieces I have been creating with all that china.....just in time to sell at......GLITTERFEST!</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Now that the grandkids are headed back to school, maybe I can remedy that! </span><br />
<div>
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-size: large;">I thought to myself, what can I share that would be simple and fun and kinda fall-ish, since the stores seem hell bent on making sure we know that Fall is right around the corner! After shedding a lil tear and saying goodbye to summer, I remembered this cute lil owl ornament that I made and sold at the craft fairs a couple of years ago. Everyone loved them and I think you will too!</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-size: large;">I actually created this lil guy on a program called Make the Cut and saved it as an .svg file which I am including as a free download via Dropbox. Just click on the link below and download to your computer. This means that you will be able to cut the patterns on a cutting machine like the Cricut (Explore only) or the Silhouette. Just use your open or import command and select the file.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-size: large;">If you don't have a cutting machine, you can still make the owl old school style. Just click the link below for the .pdf file and it will take you to Dropbox. From there you can download the file and print or print directly from Dropbox. Just remember to keep it the original size, <b><u>not </u></b> fit to page. After it prints, cut out the template parts of the owl by hand and use them to trace the parts on whatever colored cardstock you desire.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-size: large;">Cut them out and follow the instructions below:</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-size: large;">Click here for the <a href="https://www.dropbox.com/s/z70tfib1kr0cbja/owl%20project.svg">.svg owl project</a> file</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Click to access the <a href="https://www.dropbox.com/s/1qvfeg3aiv42a3c/owl%20project.pdf">.pdf owl project</a> file</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Here are the supplies you will need:</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-BG9g387PXU4/U-LuXYdcKHI/AAAAAAAAAOk/Q958Je84yUg/s1600/SUPPLIES.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-BG9g387PXU4/U-LuXYdcKHI/AAAAAAAAAOk/Q958Je84yUg/s1600/SUPPLIES.jpg" height="480" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Creating this owl is fairly simple. Start out by cutting the body from chipboard. This will make it sturdy. This lil guy should measure roughly 3" wide and 4 1/4" tall overall.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-kO6dLG0uE2k/VRn_hy1NkPI/AAAAAAAAAYk/Xvyb66Ya6iE/s1600/CHIPBOARD.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-kO6dLG0uE2k/VRn_hy1NkPI/AAAAAAAAAYk/Xvyb66Ya6iE/s1600/CHIPBOARD.jpg" height="275" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">Next, cut out 2 of the same body shape from cardstock. One for the front and one for the back. But before you glue them onto the chipboard body, cut a piece of ribbon 71/2" long, make a loop and glue it to the back, about an inch down from the top of the head. This will serve as a hanger. Now, when you glue the cardstock bodies onto the chipboard, the raw ends of the ribbon will be nicely concealed. Tip: inking the edges of all the owl parts gives them even more charm! Use an ink dauber and inkpad for this.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Ptupg00Qepg/VRn_w6bByOI/AAAAAAAAAYs/Hp0mwYdQWPo/s1600/CARDSTOCK.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Ptupg00Qepg/VRn_w6bByOI/AAAAAAAAAYs/Hp0mwYdQWPo/s1600/CARDSTOCK.jpg" height="320" width="311" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">Now you can begin adding all the parts starting with the eye base, lashes, pupils, wings and a little triangle for his beak! I like to use the Beacon 3 in 1 glue because, even though it can be a little messy, I know everything will <b>stay on</b> for good! It just takes a little getting used to :)</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<span style="font-size: large;">The final step is the fun part! Embellishing! I like to decorate their little bellys with fun things like lace, rhinestones, feathers, ribbon, buttons.....whatever! Just look below at the adorable photos for inspiration. I plan to decorate a few exactly alike in the same colors for a sweet little fall banner. If you decide to use any part of this design or tutorial on your blog, website or to make and sell, I only ask that you include me and my blog in the credit as the designer. Thanks!</span></div>

<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">It's been awhile hasn't it?! I know it's been a year since I've posted to my blog, but I have been soo busy. I just had too many things going on and now that I've done a little pruning, I hope to have the time to blog more. I just tried to do too many things (hello, I'm a Gemini), and all of them were fun, but didn't leave me enough time to re-fresh my creative spirit. Okay, enough of that!</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">I hope you all had a lovely Mothers Day! I had a great day hanging out with my hubby, daughter, son-in-law and my precious grandchildren. The saying goes, "April showers bring May flowers" and it was so true on this Mothers Day. My daughter brought me a gorgeous star gazer lily that is still welcoming me every morning with a fragrant hello. And since my garden was ablaze with the scent of jasmine and roses galore, I picked myself this glorious bouquet! I had to take some pics to share and scrapbook. Hope you enjoy!</span><br />
<br />

<span style="font-size: large;">Every one of these beauties came from my garden!</span><br />
<br />

<span style="font-size: large;">Some tips for keeping your cut flowers looking good:</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Start out using a pinch of flower food like the ones in the above photo, in your vase of water.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Cut fresh tips on each flower so it can drink up the water easily.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Remove leaves from the bottom part of the stem that will most likely be submerged in the water.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">Here's probably the most important tip: change the water EVERY day! This will remove most of the bacteria that is growing in the water and keep your flowers looking happy for a long time!</span><br />
<br />

<span style="font-size: large;">This is the life! My beautiful garden, babbling fountain in the background, a fave magazine and my big kitty Simba! I love this time of year!</span><br />

<span style="font-size: large;">A cute card and ornament I designed for a workshop at home using Close to My Heart stamps. I'm a consultant for CTMH.</span><br />

<span style="font-size: large;">Isn't this the sweetest little ornament?! I found the plain little chipboard boxes for 25cents each at Junque Trunk, a really cool flea market in Tustin, CA. Junque Trunk is sponsored by Whimzy, an equally awesome brick and mortar store that sells incredible vintage goodies!</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">Thanks for stopping by!</span>Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10145154299877159830noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1028373552463862297.post-24987110011402886442013-04-30T23:50:00.000-07:002014-09-11T16:01:35.008-07:00Paint Chips.....who knew?<span style="font-size: large;">Well, I am one busy lady these days. I have my blog and my little crafty business "A Vintage Mouse". I teach scrapbooking at the local big box craft store (not allowed to say which one but if the letter "M" pops into your mind, go with it :))) I also sell Close to my Heart (sandyholly.ctmh.com). I love their products but enjoy creating my own designs with them. Recently, as I was noodling around ideas for a CTMH card workshop I was going to host, the hubby reminded me we needed to pick out paint for a sweet little table I picked up for a song. Now, I would rather eat a bug than follow my hubby around in a hardware store, but since the paint was for me, I was stuck. Let me tell you, there are a bzillion shades of white (for the table) and picking the right one was nearly impossible, because I couldn't take my eyes off all the gorgeous colors in front of me!! With irresistible names like French Riviera (teal) and Two to Tango (orange) I was completely smitten! Wait a minute, I thought, this is just what I need to give my cards a real punch! With a can of Antique White in the cart and my purse stuffed with paint chip lusciousness, we headed home. After completing my card designs, I set about creating kits for them. This makes it so much easier for the customers to deal with.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"></span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ApMiU0rs9fA/VBInVbn_1YI/AAAAAAAAASM/5QCuLw_5lpg/s1600/cricut%2Bcut%2Bpaint%2Bchips2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ApMiU0rs9fA/VBInVbn_1YI/AAAAAAAAASM/5QCuLw_5lpg/s1600/cricut%2Bcut%2Bpaint%2Bchips2.jpg" height="320" width="276" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<div align="center" style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: 18pt;">So
proud of myself! I actually set up the paint chips to cut on the Cricut
for this card! Very helpful since I was planning to make 7 kits for the
workshop. I used Make the Cut to set this up, but Cricut Craft Room would
work too. </span></div>
<div align="center" style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: 18pt;"></span> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-BIsZugHKFog/VBInN4ALBXI/AAAAAAAAASE/Qy87Nn_lNww/s1600/cricut%2Bcut%2Bpaint%2Bchips1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-BIsZugHKFog/VBInN4ALBXI/AAAAAAAAASE/Qy87Nn_lNww/s1600/cricut%2Bcut%2Bpaint%2Bchips1.jpg" height="320" width="315" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div align="center" style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: 18pt;">I was
a bit worried how they would cut with the Cricut, but the paint didn't chip and
since they're about the same thickness as cardstock, they cut just fine. And
they stuck to the mat really well!<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div align="center" style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: 18pt;">Here
they are! Whatcha think? I can't wait to try them on other
projects! But I think I better wait a bit before I raid the paint
aisle again ;) I think they need to re-stock :))</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

chips)<span style="font-size: 18pt;"> </span></div>

You know the kind....some 60's patent leather, gold accents, Lucite handles, dressy fabric.....something your grandma might have owned. After some thinking, I decided they were too cool to just use as a purse and maybe a bit too shabby too (and not in a good way :)). So I decided to play around with something I had seen on Pinterest awhile back......using them to display vintage photos! Just a really cool piece of wall art that would be gorgeous with a shabby chic, Paris apartment or French country kind of décor. Very glammy. But guess what, I actually did what I always forget to do when I'm in a creative frenzy........I made a tutorial for it! Now mine turned out a little different than the ones I saw on Pinterest, but pretty cool just the same!</span> <br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-zZ2uJ1dnKA4/UWeVejfY_-I/AAAAAAAAAIM/-Izz26_d9xc/s1600/11-cut+a+piece+of+floral+foam.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-zZ2uJ1dnKA4/UWeVejfY_-I/AAAAAAAAAIM/-Izz26_d9xc/s320/11-cut+a+piece+of+floral+foam.jpg" height="289" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;">Cut some floral foam to fit inside the purse.</span><br />
</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-LMEHUj0XXao/UWeV4Hky9PI/AAAAAAAAAIU/zV2ygv89tfM/s1600/12-glue+foam+into+purse+pocket.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-LMEHUj0XXao/UWeV4Hky9PI/AAAAAAAAAIU/zV2ygv89tfM/s320/12-glue+foam+into+purse+pocket.jpg" height="239" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;">Glue foam into the purse using Beacon 3-in-1 glue. In this case I glued it into the pocket</span><br />
<span style="font-size: small;"></span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-L5NeEjnIPTw/UWeW1Qo8n9I/AAAAAAAAAIg/YsaEG5wXi8w/s1600/13-cut+lining+and+glue+foam+to+other+side.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-L5NeEjnIPTw/UWeW1Qo8n9I/AAAAAAAAAIg/YsaEG5wXi8w/s320/13-cut+lining+and+glue+foam+to+other+side.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">You may need to cut away some of the liner to get to the sturdier hard part of the purse. In this case I glued foam to each side of the purse and then to each other. You want your purse to remain open about 2 inches so you can put the flowers in, but no more open than that.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-hvQyyVrTXv0/UWeXqCuAtpI/AAAAAAAAAIs/qs14uN2f_CA/s1600/14-purse+and+frame.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-hvQyyVrTXv0/UWeXqCuAtpI/AAAAAAAAAIs/qs14uN2f_CA/s320/14-purse+and+frame.jpg" height="299" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">Now you're ready to work with the frame. I used a small vintage gold metal frame.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-tdzmG0w096Y/UWeYeLmZVFI/AAAAAAAAAI4/x3UB32bIklM/s1600/15-take+apart+frame+and+clean.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-tdzmG0w096Y/UWeYeLmZVFI/AAAAAAAAAI4/x3UB32bIklM/s320/15-take+apart+frame+and+clean.jpg" height="223" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: small;">T</span><span style="font-size: large;">ake the frame apart and clean it up real nice. Save all the pieces.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Uai08ujLnLs/UWeYw7urljI/AAAAAAAAAJA/hcOEuMHhx5Q/s1600/16-remove+staple+from+frame.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Uai08ujLnLs/UWeYw7urljI/AAAAAAAAAJA/hcOEuMHhx5Q/s320/16-remove+staple+from+frame.jpg" height="320" width="308" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">Take off the easel part on the back by pulling up the staple. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-7NLVFBz6yVQ/UWeZWy1MC2I/AAAAAAAAAJI/ZDDczFrLspI/s1600/17-add+photo+and+glue+frame+to+purse.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-7NLVFBz6yVQ/UWeZWy1MC2I/AAAAAAAAAJI/ZDDczFrLspI/s320/17-add+photo+and+glue+frame+to+purse.jpg" height="268" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">Put the frame back together with a photo of your choice and glue it to the purse. I just love that 3-in-1 glue man, it works on everything!</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-lNHyK4ViLYY/UWeaTkQlUII/AAAAAAAAAJc/JCAMC4IJbUg/s1600/18-select+flowers.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-lNHyK4ViLYY/UWeaTkQlUII/AAAAAAAAAJc/JCAMC4IJbUg/s320/18-select+flowers.jpg" height="257" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">Select your flowers. I personally love the look of roses and peonies in shades of cream & pink but go with whatever makes you happy!</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ls3SZ1ozY_U/UWea2XihDCI/AAAAAAAAAJk/aMxzSLv61qI/s1600/19-cut+apart+flower+stems.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ls3SZ1ozY_U/UWea2XihDCI/AAAAAAAAAJk/aMxzSLv61qI/s320/19-cut+apart+flower+stems.jpg" height="239" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">If your flowers are part of one large stem, cut them apart so you can insert them individually into the floral foam. You'll want them long enough to fit to nearly the bottom of the purse when inserted. Use care not to cut yourself in the process!</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Ge5ocfVMWwA/UWebSHeRD0I/AAAAAAAAAJs/IoZ2UD5b7Ck/s1600/20-gather+supplies.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Ge5ocfVMWwA/UWebSHeRD0I/AAAAAAAAAJs/IoZ2UD5b7Ck/s320/20-gather+supplies.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">This part, glittering up the flowers is optional. I have friends who are very squeamish about glitter, but I'm a huge fan! Everything looks better with a little sparkle, I say :))! I used the clear, chunky kind for a subtle, fairy-dust kind of look.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">This is basically a 2 step process. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">Dip the flower into some Mod Podge.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-KdGpcSeWLV4/UWecqSUA05I/AAAAAAAAAKA/L4WhrauCYd4/s1600/22-dip+flower+into+glitter.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-KdGpcSeWLV4/UWecqSUA05I/AAAAAAAAAKA/L4WhrauCYd4/s320/22-dip+flower+into+glitter.jpg" height="258" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">Then dip it into the glitter. That's it!!! Add more or less as desired.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-bRSVWrh8RzM/UWedD1OmnWI/AAAAAAAAAKI/0q5AIHAvcvM/s1600/23-brush+off+excess+glitter.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-bRSVWrh8RzM/UWedD1OmnWI/AAAAAAAAAKI/0q5AIHAvcvM/s320/23-brush+off+excess+glitter.jpg" height="233" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">After the glitter has dried, gently brush off any excess with a brush.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-aehXGYIZK0w/UWedUzbQatI/AAAAAAAAAKU/5JTDrGOTQos/s1600/24-glittered+flower1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-aehXGYIZK0w/UWedUzbQatI/AAAAAAAAAKU/5JTDrGOTQos/s320/24-glittered+flower1.jpg" height="239" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">And voila!!!! Who wouldn't love this? It looks even better in person!</span></div>

<span style="font-size: large;">More glittery gorgeousness!</span></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">We're almost to the finish line. Just insert your flowers into the foam, carefully placing them to cover up the foam. You can also use a straight pin to add a hankie or a glove for a very vintage sweet touch!</span></div>

I love watching the tiny little buds slowly poke their little heads from the bare wood of the trees in my yard. I love the soft colors too. Spring green, pale pink, robins egg blue, purple iris, daffodil yellow. Spring means we made it through winter and all is new again. This year there's a new pope in the Vatican. So fitting then, that the first rose to bloom in my garden is Pope John Paul II, a white beauty with a strong, lovely fragrance. It's the perfect bloom to jump start my favorite time of year!</span><br />

I've been making lots of new things, it seems there is no shortage of ideas and inspiration that fill my little mouse head, keeping me up at night, full of excitement. One of those ideas is a cute little Easter craft that I'd like to share with you. I've always been into recycling and when a friend was blessed with a precious little grandson, I asked if I could have any empty baby food jars she had. I turned these little jars into a fun Easter gift that will add a bit of whimsy to any Easter basket! Let me show you how....</span><br />
<br />
<br />
<table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="float: left; margin-right: 1em; text-align: left;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-ZTAgJcHb3Mw/UUkenPXrOuI/AAAAAAAAAG8/FhCf3IhlpHc/s1600/baby+jar1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-ZTAgJcHb3Mw/UUkenPXrOuI/AAAAAAAAAG8/FhCf3IhlpHc/s320/baby+jar1.jpg" height="320" width="268" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;">Start with an empty baby food jar. My husband likes the peaches and apricots, so even if I didn't have access to baby food jars, he said he would be willing to help me out with the project! :))</span><br />
</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="clear: right; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: left;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-efCpBBYolU4/UUkf8OwFHkI/AAAAAAAAAHE/8cQIy0_WcCg/s1600/baby+jar2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-efCpBBYolU4/UUkf8OwFHkI/AAAAAAAAAHE/8cQIy0_WcCg/s320/baby+jar2.jpg" height="320" width="289" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;">Paint the lid an Easter color of your choice. I made some in pink and also a minty green. You can use a paint like the ones in the photo, that are made to work with the metal lid. You might need 2 coats to cover the text on the lid, but be sure to allow the lid to dry between coats. I made my hubby do it cause I have a sensitive snout! :))</span></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em; text-align: left;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Zu7UD5Jcdv0/UUkhIxxo_fI/AAAAAAAAAHQ/rVVKZTpzkPE/s1600/baby+jar3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Zu7UD5Jcdv0/UUkhIxxo_fI/AAAAAAAAAHQ/rVVKZTpzkPE/s320/baby+jar3.jpg" height="320" width="269" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><div align="center">
<span style="font-size: large;">Add a cute little critter to the center of the lid. I got these sweet bunnies from Hobby Lobby in a pack of 6. I adhered the little guy using my new favorite adhesive, Beacon 3 in 1 Advanced Craft Glue, I got at Michaels. This stuff is super permanent and works on lots of surfaces! </span></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ep5Bzb8alvw/VRoF53XP6eI/AAAAAAAAAaE/1QNi44fD9Jc/s1600/baby%2Bjar4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ep5Bzb8alvw/VRoF53XP6eI/AAAAAAAAAaE/1QNi44fD9Jc/s1600/baby%2Bjar4.jpg" height="320" width="295" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">This part is partly up to you. Using the same 3 in 1 glue, I smooshed some glue around the lid at the base of the bunny and poured on a little bit of Flower Soft, gently pressing it down so it would adhere better. Now, I love Flower Soft, but it can be hard to find, so instead you could also use glitter, tiny flowers, beads, etc. whatever you want!</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-c_5rAeedpbc/UUklZ9xW7MI/AAAAAAAAAHg/zEIgnVY8t2Q/s1600/baby+jar5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-c_5rAeedpbc/UUklZ9xW7MI/AAAAAAAAAHg/zEIgnVY8t2Q/s320/baby+jar5.jpg" height="296" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">Mr. Bunny is starting to look pretty cute, huh?</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-XHyCtGekJU0/UUkl5-HJdWI/AAAAAAAAAHk/EjLnNeDRe7U/s1600/baby+jar6.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-XHyCtGekJU0/UUkl5-HJdWI/AAAAAAAAAHk/EjLnNeDRe7U/s320/baby+jar6.jpg" height="320" width="309" /></a> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">Now for the inside part, which is pretty easy. Just add some paper shred or fake grass that is available everywhere this time of year. I got mine at Michaels and it comes in lots of different colors too. Fill about halfway and add some candy eggs. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"> That's it!</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif; font-size: large;">At last! My last show for 2012 has come and gone. Christmas has come and gone. It's been an extremely busy year. I started my sweet little craft business - <span style="color: #e06666;"><em>A Vintage</em></span> <span style="color: #e06666;"><em>Mouse</em></span> - with buckets of enthusiasm and a tiny budget. I truly love what I'm doing but I definitely needed a break, time to re-charge my creative battery. Now it's 2013 and I'm so excited about the possibilities for my little fledgling business. There's so much work to be done but I am loving every minute of it! Stay tuned for the next post on my progress. In the meantime, here are a few pics of my last show. And well, of course.....Happy New Year!</span><br />

<span style="font-size: large;">Earlier this month I went with a friend to the Scrapbook Expo in Ontario, Ca. It's not like I've never been to one before. I've been plenty of times and even participated in a few as a vendor. But I have to say that I still enjoy them and always manage to find new and nifty products to spend my hard-earned money on! My only complaint has been the lack of time to sit down and do the cool make and takes offered by many of the vendors. This time it was different. We were actually able to do a few and it was sure fun! I loved being able to sit down and be waited on for a change. Don't get me wrong. I love my job teaching paper arts at Michaels. But I sure could get used to being a student now and then too! Check out one of the little cuties we made.....I love, love, love the vintage Halloween look, don't you?</span>Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10145154299877159830noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1028373552463862297.post-53575191693236671272012-10-19T22:34:00.002-07:002012-10-19T22:35:26.182-07:00An Affaire at the Barn<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<span style="font-size: large;">Tomorrow I'll be selling my handmade and vintage crafts at the Affaire at the Barn event in Menifee, California. This will be my second time selling there and I'm super excited. I love the ladies at Pikin Chix, the sponsor of this event and always enjoy picking through all their cool junk at the Raw Materials Sales they put on about every month. I've been working hard, creating lots of beautiful crafts and can't wait to see them on the tables, ready for an enthusiastic customer to fall in love with them! I'm especially excited to debut my little snowmen and snowomen made with bottles, bling and vintage tidbits! They even have names!</span> </div>

I'm new to this blogging stuff so bear with me! I'm excited to have a blog of my own where I can share my creative passions just like all the blogs out there that I am so addicted to! I love crafts, art and life in general. But The Vintage Mouse is my tiny little startup business....I love to create beautiful things out of re-purposed junk and breathe life into sad, little discards. I can see the possibilities in a worn-out object and the treasure it could be with a little tender, loving care. I'm so thankful that the good Lord gave me this ability. I'll be sharing more real soon and hopefully some photos of my creations too as I get the hang of this blogging thing! God bless you all! </span>Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10145154299877159830noreply@blogger.com0
